CHETAN CHAUHAN - A CRICKETING LEGEND
Chetan Chauhan, a gritty player, a successful opening partnership with Sunil Gavaskar scored 3000 runs together in numerous Tests with 10 century stands in the 1970s. Chauhan played 40 Tests where he scored 2084 runs at an average of 31.57 and his highest score is 97. He played in 7 ODIs scoring 153 runs. He was honoured the Arjuna Award in 1981 when he played Ranji Trophy for Maharashtra and Delhi. He became the manager of the Indian Team during his Australian tour. He also served the Delhi and District Cricket Association .
After his international cricket career, Chetan Chauhan joined BJP where he became the Member of Parliament in Lok Sabha from Amroha constituency in 1991 and 1998. Chauhan became the Chairman of National Institute of Fashion Technology in 2016 but left the post in 2017 to contest the UP Vidhan Sabha elections in Amroha where he won and was inducted into the Yogi Adiyanath cabinet. He got appointed as the Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare . He was holding the Sainik Welfar, Home Guards, PRD and Civil Security portfolios.
