MAN OF THE MILLENNIUM - MAHATMA GANDHI
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the Indian Lawyer, the Father of the Nation universally recognized as Mahatma in the eyes of millions was born on 2nd October 1869 in Porbandar. A worshiper of God Vishnu, follower of Jainism, leader of India's independence movement, believer in non-violence, fasting, meditation and a vegetarianism shook the world in his own gentle way.
Gandhiji came across many injustice done to him and to Indians . He vowed to root out the deep disease of color prejudice and suffer hardships to fight against discrimination. He wrote to the British Viceroy Lord Irwin "My ambition is no less than to convert the British people through non-violence and thus make them see the wrong they have done to India".
His life and teachings inspired activists including Martin Luther King Jr and Nelson Mandela.
In 1930 Time's Magazine named him "Man of the Year"
In 2007 the UN declared Gandhiji's birthday 2nd Oct as The International Day of Non Violence.
Gandhiji's image appears on paper currency issued by Reserve Bank of India.
Gandhiji taught people to forgive them who commit wrong and speak harshly.

According to Gandhiji , you can never force your teachings on others,
unless you follow what you preach.
Gandhiji taught us that if you are unable to achieve success in a short time,
do not get distracted by other options.
Focus on it and never give us unless you achieve it.
Gandhiji was frail but his mind was mightier.
Gandhiji's death was a sudden shock to the world. Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru addressed his countrymen over All India Radio saying the light has gone out of our lives and there is darkness everywhere. His death 30th January is commemorated as Martyr's Day in India.
There are three temples in India dedicated to Gandhiji - Sambalpur in Orissa, Nidagatta village near Kadur in Chikmagalur in Karnataka, Chityal in Nalgonda Telangana.
The Gandhi Memorial in Kanyakumari resembles Central India Hindu temples
The ;Tamuikkam or Summer Palace in Madurai is now the Mahatma Gandhi Museum.
