AUGUST 30 SMALL SCALE INDUSTRY DAY

TODAY IS SMALL SCALE INDUSTRY DAY. -      30 AUGUST

The Ministry of Small Scale Industries organized an SSI Convention for SSI Entrepreneurs on 30th August 2001 in New Delhi and a presentation of National Award function.  The program was divided into 3 sections - Inauguration, Distribution of National Awards and an Open House Discussion.

Small Scale Industries are a crucial sector of the Economy both financially and social point of view as they help the per capita income of resource utilization in the economy. Small Scale Industry Day is celebrated every year on 30th August with the aim to promote all the small industries and provide employment opportunities to the unemployed.  The Small Industries manufacture products and render service on a small scale but provide employment for everyone across the nation.  The day is celebrated with a different theme every year.  Innovated product designs are displayed in exhibition.  Lectures and awareness camps are organized all over the country to educate the young promising generation.

Our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched the MAKE IN INDIA on 25 September 2015 with a view to make India a global manufacturing hub by encouraging National as well as Multinational companies to manufacture their products in India.  The main focus was job creation, foster innovation, enhance skill development and protect intellectual property.  It targeted 25 sectors of the economy keeping in mind new process, new infrastructures, new sectors and new mindset.

The Small Scale Industry was already reeling under huge distress due to demonetisation, then came GST followed by prolonged economic slowdown and finally the biggest one is COVID-19 pandemic which hit the country and some sectors like travel, accommodation and food services really hit particularly hard.  These sectors had to travel a four phase process: shutdown, disruption in supply chain, demand depression and finally recovery.   The impact was severe on the sectors which provided employment to more than 100 million people who contributed more than 30 per cent of the GDP and are now slowly recovering from these tough phases.

The Small Scale Industry Day is a part of Our India - Our Pride event
