LOCKDOWN REMINDS GONE DAYS
Today not only grown ups but children too cannot think of anything without a computer. You try to give them the best food, shop the best clothes or best things for them, they are hardly bothered to see it, to taste it or even they have no time to tell us how they feel. Only a computer and a mobile is enough ..
GONE ARE THOSE DAYS where childhood was common to many houses. Getting up early morning and having a cold water bath was compulsory. The only soap common was LIFEBUOY. Not only Radios but Theatres had the only advertisement "Tandrusti ke raksha kartha hai lifebuoy". Bathroom singers were found humming this tune
Only festival days people changed the soap to MOTI
Mothers were found scrubbing the clothes with OK soap or 501 bar soap. They had detergent which is still continued even today and that is NIRMA. The advertisement 'Washing powder Nirma 'is evergreen
Shampoo was mildly used. It was an extra expense.
Breakfast was common to the entire family. There was no questioning. Whatever the Mothers prepared had the love and the family enjoyed eating. No variety in biscuits. PARLE G was common.
Special food recepies were found only during occasions , festivals or when guests came. Purchasing new dresses meant a great job. children were thrilled and they kept it safe wearing only on occasions while lasted for a year . The clothes of elder children would be used for the younger ones also.
For entertainment the elders had radio where only Akashwani was enjoyed. It had a specific time for various programmes and they switched on to hear beautiful songs at the correct time. There was Black and White TV in rare houses where the neighbouring children rushed in every Saturday and Sunday to watch movies and every Thursdays to watch Chirtrahaar, Rangoli or Chayageet which showed film songs. People waited for Sundays to watch Ramayan or Mahabharat and even Shaktimaan.
There was no mobile or computer so children played with mud, dolls, playthings. Outdoor games were fun. The elder children would send the youngest to all houses and fix the time of play. Everybody came to the ground by 3 pm and left after playing by 6 pm. They played hide and seek, cricket or gulli danda , khokho and many games which today children don't even know. In between they went in search of trees like Imli, Guava and Mango. Boys used to throw stones and Girls used to collect them. They would all sit in a circle and enjoy eating. When it started to rain they would simply run and get wet. They made paper boats and try to float it in water. They kept buckets to fill water in times of heavy rain and washed their legs using this water. Cycling and swimming was enjoyed by many. Mothers sat reading weekly stories in magazines as they were more curious to know the next episode. After 6p.m. mother's strictly called their children and asked them to stop playing . Children then washed their hands and legs and sat to study which was compulsory. When the father arrived from work, he was happy to see the child studying. The child on the other hand waited for the sweet that the father brought. Dinner was enjoyed by the family together. Children went to bed at the correct time and had sound sleep.
Did this lockdown change the new generation. How many must have remembered the past ??
