RIP THE ROYAL PRINCE KHALIFA BIN SALMAN AL KHALIFA THE PM OF BAHRAIN

 



Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa was a Bahraini Royal and Politician  who served as the Prime Minister of Bahrain from 19 January 1970 until his death on 11 November 2020.  having taken office over a year before Bahrain's independence on 15 August 1971.  He died at the  Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota on 11 Nov 2020 at the age of 84, 13 days before his 85th birthday .At 50 years and 11 months in office, he was the world's longest serving Prime Minister in history at the time of his death.  He has three surviving children, sons Ali and Salman and daughter Lulwa.

Prince Khalifa was born into the Al Khalifa dynasty that for more than two centuries has ruled Bahrain, an island in the Persian Gulf whose name in Arabic means the "two seas." The son of Bahrain's former ruler, Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa who ruled from 1942 to 1961, the prince learned governance at his father's side as the island remained a British protectorate.

In the month of April, the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bahrain Prime Minster Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa had a telephonic conversation regarding COVID-19.  The Prince of Bahrain assured our Prime Minister of his personal attention to the welfare of the large Indian community in Bahrain and agreed that their officials would remain in regular touch and ensure all possible support to each other for  dealing with the challenges of COVID-19.  

The Prince of Bahrain had special concern for the Indian community, including the Keralites in Bahrain.  He praised the hardworking attitude and honesty of Keralites working in Bahrain and reminded  Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan  that more than two thousand Keralites were working under him. He played a crucial role in finding other financial sources for the island nation without relying upon the diminishing oil revenue and led the country towards development and modernization.
