Born as Abas Kumar, he became famous as Kishore Kumar who sang songs in multiple languages.
Kishoreji had no formal training in singing but entertained the world with his songs from soft numbers
to peppy tracks to romantic moods. He was inspired by singer K L Saigal and imitated him
Kishoreji's style of yodeling in songs were admired by Tex Morton and Jimmie Rodgers. He sang
245 songs picturized on Rajesh Khanna from 92 films which is an unbeaten record. He also sang
202 songs for Jeetendra, 119 songs for Dev Anand and 131 songs for Amitabh Bachchan.
Kishore Kumar entertained the world as playback singer, actor, music director, producer, lyricts,
writer and screen writer. In the movie Half Ticket, he sang both the male and female part of the song
himself. On his birth and death anniversary each year a function is held in the setup of a memorial on Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh which has a life sized statue in a lotus shaped structure with a mini
theatre and museum dedicated to him. His films are screened there.
