KNOW ABOUT VINOBA BHAVE - A DISCIPLE OF GANDHIJI
BORN ON 11 SEPTEMBER 1895 IN GAGOJI A VILLAGE IN KOLABA IN KONKAN REGION OF MAHARASHTRA, ACHARYA VINOBA BHAVE WAS HIGHLY INSPIRED BY BHAGAVAD GITA AT A VERY YOUNG AGE. HE WAS IMPRESSED BY THE SPEECH OF GANDHIJI AND DECIDED TO GIVE UP STUDIES AND BECOME A DISCIPLE OF GANDHIJI. HE STAYED IN SABARMATI ASHRAM IN A COTTAGE THAT WAS NAMED AFTER HIM "VINOBA KUTTIR"
KNOWN AS A SCHOLAR, THINKER, WRITER, TRANSLATOR, ORATOR AND LINGUIST WHO HAD EXCELLENT COMMAND OF SEVERAL LANGUAGES, HE CALLED "KANNADA" SCRIPT THE 'QUEEN OF WORLD SCRIPT(VISHWA LIPIGALA RANI)". HE TRANSLATED THE BHAGWAT GITA INTO MARATHI LANGUAGE STATING "THE GITA IS MY LIFE'S BREATH". HE WAS AN INDIAN ADVOCATE OF NON VIOLENCE AND HUMAN RIGHTS.
VINOBA BHAVE STARTED THE BRAHMA VIDYA MANDIR FOR WOMEN COMMUNITY WHERE THEY COULD BECOME SELF SUFFICIENT AND NON VIOLENT. HE FOUND THE LIFE OF AVERAGE INDIAN LIVING IN A VILLAGE WAS TOUGH AND TRIED TO FIND OUT SOLUTIONS FOR THEIR PROBLEMS IN A SPIRITUAL FOUNDATION CALLED SARVODAYA MOVEMENT. HE PARTICIPATED IN THE QUIT INDIA MOVEMENT.
HE WALKED ALL OVER INDIA FOR MORE THAN 13 YEARS AND ESTABLSHED 6 ASHRAMS. AFTER INTERACTING WITH THE HARIJANS, HE STARTED THE BHOODAN MOVEMENT WHERE HE TOOK DONATED LANDS FROM INDIAN LANDOWNERS AND GAVE IT TO THE POOR AND LANDLESS TO CULTIVATE. HE SPENT THE LATER PARTS OF HIS LIFE AT HIS BRAHMA VIDYA MANDIR ASHRAM IN PAURNAR, WARDHA DISTRICT OF MAHARASHTRA AND DIED ON 15 NOV 1982, HE IS REMEMBERED AS THE FARTHER OF BHOODAN MOVEMENT
