NAVRATRI - NINE DAYS FESTIVAL
NAVRATRI is a festival that spans nine days every autumn that is September or October every year. In India it is celebrated differently with different stories or legends but the common theme is the battle and the victory of Good over Evil. In some states Durga Puja is synonymous with Navaratri where Goddess Durga battles and emerges victorious over the buffalo demon to help restore Dharma. Some states celebrate "Ram Lila" and Dussehra where the battle and victory is of God Rama over the demon king Ravana. In the South the victory of different goddesses of Rama or Saraswati is celebrated. On the last day called Dussehra or Vijayadashami the statues are either immersed in river or ocean or it is burnt with fireworks marking evil's destruction.
