STORY OF ONAM

Image
ONAM has got everything to do with King MAHABALI.  How did it all start ? There was an Asuran demon who hated Lord Vishnu.  This demon had a son named Prahlada who was a strong devotee of Vishnu.  His father  did not like this and tried to kill him but Lord Vishnu took the avtaar of Narsimha and saved Prahlada.  Prahlada had a son called Virochara who is Bali's father.  Bali was known as Mahabali as he was a good ruler and people loved him. Mahabali was the grandson of Prahlada.  He defeated the gods Devas and through his power took over the three worlds.  The Devas came to Lord Vishnu and asked for his help.  Lord Vishnu refused because Mahabali was a good ruler and his devotee.  After victory Mahabali kept a Yajna(home) and that day he would grant anyone any request.  Lord Vishnu wanted to test him so he came in the avatar of a dwarf,a brahmin boy called Vamana.  Mahabali asked Vamana what he wanted.  Vamana said he needed only three foot of land.  Mahabali agreed.  Suddenly Va

TIPS TO GET A GOOD SKILL IN WRITING  AND   READING. Children should use only good pencil for writing.  Pencil should be pointed . Write the alphabets capital or small letter correctly and clearly.  In case it is not correct rub it out and write correctly.  Always keep a clean rubber in hand.   Do not overwrite any alphabet.  If it is not clear, rub and write .   Write between the two lines.  Do not write above or below the line. HAPPY GANESH FESTIVAL TO ALL

Image
Pune is proud to remember their great leader Shivaji Maharaj and their great festival Ganesh Utsav.  Yes , Ganesh festival was first celebrated in Pune since the era of Shivaji Maharaj - founder of Maratha Empire (1630 - 1680). This festival was celebrated with installation of idols in every house.  When British Raj started Ganesh Utsav lost state patronage but Indian freedom fighter and social reformer Lokmanya Tilak revived it back in public.  He praised this celebration in his newspaper 'KESARI' and launched Ganesh festival as a well organized public event.  Going against the Britishers, Tilak tried his level best to bridge the gap between Brahmins and Non Brahmins through this festival.  Soon it became a mass community event .  Not only the whole of Maharashtra but it became popular amongst people all over India.  A Ganesh Puja was started by Lokmanya Tilak in 1893.  The idol is the same from the very first day and it has been made by the same family for over four generatio

KNOW ABOUT OUR CALENDAR

Image
Man cannot imagine life without clock and calendar.  Without Calendar life will be clueless and helpless.  To monitor our daily schedules, activities, to keep track of events, festivals, meeting deadlines, commitments and so on  we really have to depend on Calendar.  Our life started with the Roman calendar.  Romans had ten months starting from March to December.  Roman writers credited this calendar to their legendry first king Romulus.  Initially the names of months derived from Roman Gods.   Romulus named the first month March as Martius after his father Mars, the God of War.    April (Aprilis), May (Maius) and June (Iunius) derived from deities of Roman culture.  April was  named after goddess Aphrodite who was born from sea's foam which was considered the open spring season.  May came from the deity , the nymph Maia who was assimilated with the Earth and June was honoured by the deity Juno the goddess of war and women.  The other names were Quintillis, Sextillis, September, No
