MAN OF THE MILLENNIUM - MAHATMA GANDHI
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the Indian Lawyer, the Father of the Nation universally recognized as Mahatma in the eyes of millions was born on 2nd October 1869 in Porbandar. A worshiper of God Vishnu, follower of Jainism, leader of India's independence movement, believer in non-violence, fasting, meditation and a vegetarianism shook the world in his own gentle way. Gandhiji came across many injustice done to him and to Indians . He vowed to root out the deep disease of color prejudice and suffer hardships to fight against discrimination. He wrote to the British Viceroy Lord Irwin "My ambition is no less than to convert the British people through non-violence and thus make them see the wrong they have done to India". His life and teachings inspired activists including Martin Luther King Jr and Nelson Mandela.
